2024 ABVTA Annual Report
2024 marks a milestone year as we celebrate the 45th anniversary of our association. Reflecting on our journey, we’re reminded of the rich history and the foundational work that has brought us to where we are today.
In 1965, the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association appointed its first committee on training technicians, and during the 60s and 70s, veterinary technologists often came from human medical disciplines such as laboratory technology or nursing, or were trained directly on the job. The Alberta Association of Animal Health Technologists (AAAHT), now proudly known as the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA), was initially formed in 1977 and incorporated in 1979.
While much has changed since our incorporation, we remain committed to some of the same core objectives we held in 1979, such as educational advancement, career development, compensation, and fostering collaboration with our partners. These remain at the heart of our work today, especially as we continue to navigate a period of growth and change within the profession.
This year, we’ve had the privilege of celebrating our many achievements, including the success of our anniversary conference in May, which was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our members and celebrate together.
However, the celebration doesn’t stop here. As we move forward, we recognize that the landscape of our profession is shifting, and it is crucial that we not only anticipate these changes but prepare for them.
