The ABVTA Awards recognize outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the veterinary profession.
Honoring passion, dedication, and excellence, these awards highlight the impact of Registered Veterinary Technologists who go above and beyond in their clinics, communities, and the veterinary field as a whole.

1. ABVTA Meritorious Service Award Criteria and Recipients
This award is presented every year to an ABVTA or ABVMA member(s) who have demonstrated outstanding service to the ABVTA. It recognizes individuals who actively promote the role of the veterinary technologist within the profession, to the public, and across the veterinary industry.
Criteria:
- Demonstrates excellence in all aspects of their field.
- Conducts themselves in a professional manner.
- Shows dedication to the humane treatment of animals.
- Contributes to the profession through participation with the ABVTA Board, committees, or activities.
2. ABVTA Appreciation Award Criteria and Recipients
This award is presented to an ABVTA member who has made significant contributions to the ABVTA through projects and activities while volunteering as a board member, in an affiliated position, or as a committee member.
Criteria:
- Actively served on an ABVTA committee, in an affiliated position, or on the Board of Directors for at least two years.
- Promotes and contributes to the profession of veterinary technology through their conduct at work or in public.
- Supports and enhances the image of the ABVTA.
3. The Lucille Landals Emerging Leader Award and Recipients
This award is named in honor of Ms. Lucille Landals, RVT, a lifelong member of the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association and a distinguished leader in advancing the role of veterinary technologists in Alberta. It is presented to a new ABVTA member who has made outstanding contributions to the association and the veterinary community.
Criteria:
- Supports our mission by empowering RVTs through leadership, advocacy, inclusion, and innovation.
- Demonstrates sustained leadership and initiative.
- Must be within the first five (5) years of membership (post-graduation) with the ABVTA.
4. The ABVTA Technologist of the Year Award
This award is presented to a registered ABVTA member who has made significant contributions to the veterinary profession. Candidates lead by example, embodying the association’s core values of growth, belonging, teamwork, passion, leadership, and innovation, while providing compassionate veterinary care.
Criteria:
- Supports and fosters a cohesive team environment.
- Demonstrates a high standard of animal welfare and a commitment to the humane treatment of animals.


The recipient of the 2017 ABVTA Meritorious Service Award has been a dedicated volunteer with the ABVTA, starting on the Continuing Education Committee in 2013 and now, currently serving as President. Despite being the most northerly volunteer the ABVTA has recently had, she has persevered to remain an active and engaged volunteer.
