Honoring passion, dedication, and excellence, these awards highlight the impact of Registered Veterinary Technologists who go above and beyond in their clinics, communities, and the veterinary field as a whole.

ABVTA proudly presents up to 4 awards annually:
1. ABVTA Meritorious Service
2. ABVTA Volunteer Appreciation
3. The Lucille Landals Emerging Leader
4. The ABVTA Technologist of the Year
1. ABVTA Meritorious Service Award Criteria and Recipients
This award is presented to an ABVTA or ABVMA member who champions and
advances the role of RVTs within the veterinary profession, to the public, and
across the veterinary industry.
Criteria:
- Displays excellence in all aspects of their field
- Conducts themselves in a professional manner
- Demonstrates leadership in advocating for the recognition, utilization, and advancement of RVTs
2. ABVTA Volunteer Appreciation Award Criteria and Recipients
This award is presented to an ABVTA member who has made significant
contributions to the ABVTA through projects and activities while volunteering
as a board member, committee member, or in another volunteer role (e.g. task
forces, working groups, representation, special projects).
Criteria:
- Actively served/serving on an ABVTA committee, in another volunteer role, or on the Board of Directors.
- Promotes and contributes to the profession of veterinary technology through conduct at work, during volunteer engagements and in public situations.
- Promotes and enhances the image of the ABVTA.
3. The Lucille Landals Emerging Leader Award and Recipients
The Lucille Landals Emerging Leader Award is named after Lucille Landals, a
lifelong member of the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association and a
distinguishable leader in the advancement of veterinary technologists in Alberta.
This award is presented to any new registered member of the ABVTA who makes
outstanding contributions to the Association and our professional veterinary
community.
Criteria:
- Supports the ABVTA’s mission by advancing the profession while providing compassionate veterinary care
- Demonstrates sustained leadership and initiative
- Must be within their first five (5) years of membership (post registration) with the ABVTA
4. The ABVTA Technologist of the Year Award
This award is presented to a registered member of the ABVTA who leads by example through the Association’s core values, while exhibiting professionalism,
integrity, and inclusivity.
Criteria:
- Supports and engages a cohesive and collaborative team environment
- Demonstrates mentorship by guiding, supporting, and inspiring colleagues and future RVTs
- Represents and promotes the role of RVTs through positive public interactions and meaningful public engagement
