From gathering supplies to handing over the final report to the client, this session will walk attendees through bovine breeding soundness evaluations from the RVT’s perspective. We’ll cover organization and set-up, sample collection, slide preparation, and motility and morphology evaluation. New to semen testing? Looking for a refresher on reading slides without the pressure of being on a call? This session is for you. We’ll explore strategies RVTs can use to build confidence, refine techniques, and develop proficiency before putting those skills into practice during appointments. We'll also discuss how RVTs can increase efficiency by working to the fullest extent of their scope of practice. Whether you’re a well-seasoned bovine RVT or new to the field (literally), this session offers attendees an opportunity to review what they know, gain insight on what they don’t, and refine their approach to breeding soundness evaluation calls with the DVMs at their clinic. This session is approved for 1 hour of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit for RVTs by the ABVMA. This webinar will be recorded. After graduating from the Olds College Animal Health Technology program in 2017, she returned to the Olds area to work in mixed animal practice. Her passion for bovine medicine soon led her to join the team at Veterinary Agri-Health Services, a beef cattle specialty practice in Rocky View County, Alberta, where she has been employed since March 2020. Eager to contribute more to the practice and its clients, Lauren became certified in bovine pregnancy detection in November 2023 and has been proud to provide this service alongside the VAHS veterinarians since. In May 2025, Lauren was honoured to be appointed as the inaugural RVT Ex Officio Director of the Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners. Later that year, in December 2025, Lauren earned her Veterinary Technician Specialist designation in Production Medicine Clinical Practice. Over the course of her career, Lauren has become increasingly engaged in professional education within the veterinary and animal agriculture communities. This has been demonstrated by her participation in various local and international speaking engagements and features in publications such as Canadian Cattlemen and Farm Press Media, supporting knowledge sharing between veterinary teams and the livestock industry. Lauren is dedicated to applying her advanced skillset across all areas of practice, with a keen interest in calf health, anesthesia, research, and mentoring veterinary technology students and RVTs interested in pursuing careers in food animal medicine.
