Growth charting will be introduce to help ensure kittens stay lean as they mature. Triaging GI Nutrition & Using Biotics Time: 11:30 AM-12:00 PM MDT (10:30 AM - 11:00 AM PT) Speaker: Robin Saar MSc., RVT, VTS (Nutrition) RVTs obtain patient symptoms and nutrition histories every day. This information can help determine what diagnostics a DVM may want to complete and they can help us determine which diet might offer the best support. Triaging gastrointestinal symptoms can help determine which gastrointestinal diet offers the best nutrient formulation - lower fat, higher fibre, lower carbohydrates - to help patient's recover faster. This session will review triaging techniques along with understanding the purpose of biotics in GI conditions. Getting Cats Active - Working our Way out of Obesity Time: 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM MDT (11:00 AM - 12:15 PM PT) Speaker: Cynthia Mercier, RVT, CCRP Weight loss should be as simple as cutting back calories and seeing the numbers go down; the reality is, we need to consider a different approach to weight loss. This session will review best practices for weight loss in cats including some tips to improve movement and quality of life. Common comorbidities (diabetes, and osteoarthritis) will also be considered as part of the health plan in this session. RVTs have a key role in helping pet owners keep aging cats healthy while preventing or managing age related health conditions.
