Radiation Safety Week – 2023

The Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) will be recognizing Radiation Safety Week, running November 5 – 11th, 2023.

With increasing caseloads and staffing challenges, our personal radiation safety may not always be top of mind. Veterinary professionals are too often directly exposed to radiation on a daily basis.

Your safety is justifiable, lets work together to reduce occupational radiation exposure of veterinary professionals through innovation and education.

The year’s focus will place a special emphasis on empowering and engaging RVTs to take on the vital role of Radiation Quality Assurance Officer within their practice.

During Radiation Safety Week, the ABVTA will be hosting a webinar, in partnership with the ABVMA.

Date: November 8, 2023 – Take a Lead on Radiation Safety, Speakers: Dr. Jocelyn Forseille & Monica Clair, RVT (7-8p.m. via Zoom)

Description: RVTs are ideally suited for the role of Radiation Quality Assurance Officer due to their technical training and skill set. In this webinar, “Take a Lead on Radiation Safety,” we will delve into the ABVMA’s Radiation Quality Assurance program, its significance, and the responsibilities of the Radiation Quality Assurance Officer. Discover what PIPS (Prescribed Imaging Procedures Standards) inspectors will be looking for and where to find assistance and support.
