Plane for Ukraine

The Alberta veterinary profession has collaborated with WDDC to support humanitarian relief in Ukraine through the donation of urgently needed medical supplies. This collaboration is in support of Plane for Ukraine, the Canadian Ukrainian Congress, Firefighter Aid Ukraine, and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Edmonton.

Plane for Ukraine is a group of non-profit organizations & volunteers with support from the Consulate Generals of Ukraine in Edmonton and Chicago as well as Firefighter Aid Ukraine. Additionally, the Canadian Ukrainian Congress is also a partner of Firefighter Aid Ukraine.

Since 2013, Firefighter Aid for Ukraine has been donating gear, equipment, and medical supplies from Canada to Ukraine. They have strong, established relationships and distribution networks in place in Ukraine for the supplies arriving from Canada.

On March 10, 2022, the first cargo plane departed Edmonton with almost 20 tonnes of donated clothing, military equipment, and medical supplies for Ukraine. The next shipment is expected to depart Edmonton sometime around the end of May, however, conditional on the supplies received.

At this current time, medical supplies are essential for treating human casualties of the war, both in the field and in hospitals.  A list of medical supplies available for donation, found on the WDDC website has been reviewed by Firefighter Aid Ukraine. Pet products have not been requested by the Ukrainian Society at this time.
