Celebrate RVT Month with the ABVTA!
Every October, the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) proudly celebrates the integral work that Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) do each and every day. RVTs are essential professionals in the veterinary field, contributing to animal health, food safety, public health, and community well-being through their expertise in everything from biosecurity to diagnostics.
Whether in clinics, farms, shelters, research labs, or emergency response, RVTs are at the heart of veterinary care across Alberta.
Why We Celebrate RVT Month
Since 1993, the third week of October was recognized as National Veterinary Technician Week. Here in Alberta and across Canada, we now dedicate the entire month of October to highlighting the critical contributions of Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs).
This shift reflects the growing recognition of the essential roles RVTs play not just in clinics, but in every area of animal care and public health. RVT Month not only honours these professionals, it also serves as a platform to raise public awareness, encourage professional recognition, and advocate for solutions to workforce challenges such as shortages and retention.
By giving RVTs the time and visibility they’ve earned, we help build a stronger, more sustainable future for veterinary care. RVT Month is not only a celebration, it’s a call to action for lasting support and recognition.
